The electro-oxidation of methanol to formate is an interesting example the potential use renewable energies add value a biosourced chemical commodity. Additionally, can replace sluggish oxygen evolution reaction when coupled hydrogen or electroreduction other biomass-derived intermediates. But cost-effective realization these schemes requires development efficient and low-cost electrocatalysts. Here, noble metal-free catalyst, Ni1?xFexSe2 nanorods, with high for selective conversion demonstrated. At its optimum composition, Ni0.75Fe0.25Se2, this diselenide able produce 0.47 mmol cm?2 h?1 at 50 mA Faradaic efficiency 99%. noble-metal-free catalyst continuously work over 000 s minimal loss efficiency, delivering initial current densities above 2.2 A mg?1 in 1.0 m KOH electrolyte 1.5 V versus reversible electrode. This demonstrates highly methanol-to-formate on Ni-based catalysts, more importantly it shows very promising exploit electrocatalytic chemicals.
